Published May 30, 2024
for another year, main will be taking part in Collision, from June 17 to 20 in Toronto. And once again, we're working closely with the trade mission led by Investissement Québec International (IQI), in partnership with the City of Montreal and in collaboration with the Quebec Office in Toronto, to create connections within the Quebec delegation taking part.
In this article, you'll find tips on how to achieve your goals:
-
help you prepare for your networking
-
maximize your impact
-
living a mission in community
and to refresh your memory, we wrote a post-Collision 2023 review with a number of practical tips.
GET READY TO NETWORK (AND GET SORE FEET)
In order to be effective in the meetings you'll have and better develop your business, make sure you're well prepared before arriving in Toronto.
- download the Collision appto plan your inspirational breaks - such as listening to conferences - and write to the people who'll be there.
- make your appointments as soon as possible with the investors or partners you want to talk to, since it's quite possible that the people you want to talk to are already booked!
- Keep an eye out for networking events and activities taking place in Toronto alongside Collision. These are great ways to continue conversations around the booths. In fact, the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec, in conjunction with the Quebec Office in Toronto, is organizing its Soirée Québec on Wednesday, June 19 at 5 p.m. Make sure you're registered!
- Networking can also begin even before arriving in Toronto, by taking the Startup Montréal bus that departs from Montreal at 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
- and last but not least, wear comfortable shoes; you'll walk a lot!
MAXIMIZE IMPACT ON SITE
Like many trade missions abroad, Collision can stun even the most seasoned attendees with its astronomical number of conferences and the sheer number of people involved.
To maximize the impact of your presence, and achieve your goals, start by announcing your objectives to Quebec partners, and get your schedule involved in the activities and events that bring the most value.
if you're part of the IQI trade mission, the 2 preparatory sessions, in Montreal and Quebec City, were more than helpful in getting you well prepared. and if you missed them, here's an outline of the expert advice (summarized on LinkedIn by Vincent Lafrenaye Lamontagne of MT Lab):
- take advantage of the event to obtain insider information and explore investor portfolios.
- Keep less relevant discussions as short as possible to maximize your time.
- stay relaxed, friendly and never give up. Accept that no one is going to write a check tomorrow morning, and it's best to maintain cordial relations over the long term.
JOIN THE GROUP!
in collaboration with IQI, we've put together a program just for you, to create moments of connection between Quebec, the rest of Canada, and the rest of the world!
