Free training, a partnership with OPIC, and direct assistance with intellectual property asset protection

The momentumPI service continues to operate at full capacity even though it officially has only 18 months left of operation.

In terms of intellectual property training and awareness, we have launched the first training module titled “ The Fundamentals of IP ,” which is available online and free of charge to our entrepreneurs in Quebec. Since its launch, nearly 50 entrepreneurs have completed this module.

A Promising New Partnership

To further support our IP entrepreneurs, we recently entered into a collaboration agreement with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). Among other things, this agreement will provide entrepreneurs with consultation hours with Nicolas Déziel, an intellectual property advisor.

These office hours can be booked on our training platform. Entrepreneurs will be able to ask questions about the momentumPI service and determine which path is best suited for their business to take steps to protect its IP assets.

In addition, we are continuing our weekly information sessions, which welcome dozens of interested entrepreneurs each week. Starting in mid-October, we will be offering a new format that will also include an OPIC training session on IP-related issues.

In total, since the launch of the momentumPI service, 248 companies have either started or completed Phases 2 and 3—that is, strategy development and strategy implementation, respectively. It should be noted that each company selected to implement its IP strategy appears before an evaluation committee of experts to verify that the IP actions are strategic for the company.

Coming in the next few months

In terms of training and awareness-raising, we will launch a second module, developed in partnership with ROBIC, to offer more advanced training on intellectual property strategies and their impact on business growth.

When it comes to developing and implementing the IP strategy, the priority remains making the service available to as many innovative companies as possible, since there are only 18 months left before momentumPI comes to an end.

It may seem like a long time, but time flies, especially when you consider that legal procedures—such as filing a patent—can take a long time.
